Implementation of Resilient Self-Healing Microgrids with IEC 61850-Based Communications

Due to the high penetration of distributed energy resources (DER) and emerging DER interconnection interoperability requirements, fast standardized information exchange is essential for stable, resilient, reliable operations in microgrids. This paper proposes fault detection, isolation, restoration (F-FDIR) microgrid application with IEC 61850 Generic Object Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) communication considering communication/system failure. GOOSE provides a mechanism lightweight low latency peer-to-peer data between devices, which reduces time compared conventional client-server paradigm. The proposed mitigation method failure can find an available scenario reduce overall process time. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testbed designed implemented real digital simulator, control system, protection intelligent electric devices (IEDs) validation. experimental results show that F-FDIR models enhance reliability operation enable self-healing
